Yang Gui Fei who lived between 719 to 756 A.D. was the beloved concubine of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. During the Lushan Rebellion, the emperor and his cortege were fleeing the capital. The emperor’s guards demanded he put Yang to death because they blamed her cousin’s family for the rebellion. The emperor capitulated. His attendant, Gao Shi supervised her forced suicide. She is one of the Four Beauties of ancient China.
